of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and a certified dog trainer with the Animal Behavioral College, where she also works as a mentor-trainer teaching students how to become trainers in their own right. Her philosophy and methodology, which have been approved by numerous veterinarians, centers on the use of positive reinforcement. She employs a scientifically proven teaching method derived from dolphin training that uses a marker—a “clicker” or repetition of the word YES—to reinforce desired behavior. This method helps dogs learn faster and better enables both dog and owner to enjoy the training process. One of Kate Perry Dog Training’s primary goals is to help owners feel good about training their dogs.

Kate began her career by opening her own dog walking business in New York City in 1999 after recognizing that she has a natural affinity with animals. She was invited by Breon O'Farrell of Philosophy Dog Training to be his apprentice and studied intensively with him for two years, after which time she became the executive dog trainer for his organization. Whilst in this position, she helped develop the group classes that she now specializes in and which compliment the tailored, personal training approach she currently provides to her clients.

Kate grew up in the Canary Islands, Greece and England rescuing all kinds of animals, including donkeys rabbits, ducks, goats, cats, dogs and even a few fish. She has trained with dolphins in the Bahamas and recently completed her CPR certification. Kate is also a volunteer and supporter of Mighty Mutts animal rescue organization in New York City.

Kate Perry’s Mission
is to empower owners to develop happy and healthy relationships with their dogs that will last a lifetime. She specializes in hands-
on dog training in urban environments, using positive reinforcement to help owners enhance their relationships while taking into account the unique lifestyles, personalities and life-stages of both owner and pet. Kate aims to create a fun and loving atmosphere and a relationship of respect, trust and understanding in order to establish that strong bond between owner and pet.

Shelby Semel Assistant Trainer

Shelby enrolled in Animal Behavior college early in 2009 and was paired up with Kate Perry as a mentor. She then went on to graduate with honors and became a certified dog trainer at the end of 2009. For the past year, she has helped teach Kate's Puppy Kindergarden and Basic Obedience classes. Having switched over from the corporate world, Shelby is ecstatic  to now be working full time as an assistant dog trainer to Kate. Starting in May 2010, after helping teach at the other locations for the past year, she is thrilled to be leading the classes at Kate's new location- Precious Pets.  She grew up on Long Island in a household that consistently had 3 dogs at a time, one always being a German Shepherd. Xena the long haired chihuahua, became Shelby's first personal dog as well as roommate while she was studying at the University of Michigan; she now also is the proud owner of a Pomeranian named Taz whose behavioral issues help keep her training skills up to par. tel.
